Computer Science Capstone Class

Computer Science Capstone is a senior-level project course that allows students to solve a substantial problem with knowledge gained from many areas in computer science and they may also integrate engineering. Students work in teams to define a problem, develop a solution, produce and demonstrate an artifact that solves the problem, and present their work. Class time focuses on the project design and implementation, but it will also include lectures, job shadowing, as well as cross discipline collaboration on the practical application of advanced topics.

This Capstone is designed to be a culmination of your learning, and a chance to develop and express many skills at once: For example, technical expertise and communication ability.

Capstone Goals

Projects must be large enough to require teams of several students to work on over one quarter.
Students must apply concepts from more than one sub-area
The work must involve a substantial design effort.
Students must present their work using formal oral presentations and written reports.
Efforts must culminate in an interesting, working artifact.

Student Assessments

Students will be assessed on their ability to:

Communicate personal learning plan, budget and resources with mentor(s) and course facilitator, using appropriate technologies and language (e.g., letter of intent, budget proposal presentation, mentor request).
Organize a professional portfolio, which includes completed workplace documents.
Construct a research project .Gather, organize and analyze information from multiple sources to answer a research question
Design and develop a product based on personal learning plan
Organize and deliver prepared presentation, delineating plan, product and research

Cell Phone Use: We will follow the school policy of racking all phones unless we are using them for a lesson related purpose!!

Do your own work but collaborate when needed. Understanding is earned. Learning takes time and effort. I will be clear when I expect you to do your own work and when you can collaborate.
