Cybersecurity & AI/Machine Learning

Mission Statement

Cybersecurity students will identify and address the grand challenges of information assurance and privacy. We will educate and train students to address contemporary and future cybersecurity challenges faced in our society. Through industry and government partnerships we seek to gain technical skills and ethical understanding to secure our future in the world of information technology.

 

Course Description

Cybersecurity & AI/Machine Learning is a year-long course teaching advanced problem-solving skills necessary to identify and resolve potential Cyber security threats. Completion of this course prepares students for successful job placement in the ever-expanding IT landscape. Students will learn marketable skills through computer simulations, hands-on labs, and Analysis and Investigation of Cyber Scenarios (AICS). This course will follow a daily lesson on our Canvas page

Course Objectives

Students will be prepared for industry-recognized certifications, such as CompTIA’s A+/Network+/Security+/CySA+, CEH, CHFI, etc. Students are encouraged to obtain IT industry certifications to increase their career outlook. 

Learning Environment

Our course provides students with a broad exposure to the many aspects of digital and information security, while encouraging socially responsible choices and ethical behavior. We will use physical and virtual labs to learn and practice real-world IT skills. Students will explore the many educational and career paths available to cybersecurity experts, as well as other careers that comprise the field of information security. 

Homework

YOU CREATE HOMEWORK. Students will be expected to complete any assignments which they cannot complete in class at home when the time constraint demands. Students SHOULD be able to complete assignments during class. Most, if not all, graded work is completed during our class such as discussions, quizzes, projects, labs, etc.  Late or missing work: Students with an excused absence/tardy may complete missed work online in most cases. As this class is career focused, late assignments will not be accepted without good reason or previous discussion with me.Grading Procedures

Classroom Rules and Policies

  1.     Show respect for the teacher, yourself and others at all times. Do not talk over someone else. Please raise your hand if you have a question or  comment.
  2.       Pay attention, participate and ask questions. NO SLEEPING.    
  3.       Do not cheat, plagiarize, or copy work.
  4.       Use polite and appropriate language. Inappropriate language is disrespectful and displays a lack of vocabulary.
  5.       Do not download or access inappropriate programs or content on the internet. This includes games.
  6.       Keep your area clean! Discard any trash from the seat and/or surrounding area, in the proper receptacle.
  7.       Keep the room organized. Please return any tools or equipment to their proper place before the end of class.

 

Cheating

Every student is capable of doing his or her own work. Cooperation with other classmates is encouraged and appropriate; however, copying someone else’s work is cheating. Students caught cheating (or assisting in cheating) will receive an automatic negative assignment value for their work and a formal letter will be sent home. Repeated offenses will result in further disciplinary action, which may result in removal from the course.

Computer Policy

Although this is a computer course, the use of the computers is a privilege. Students are expected to use the computers as a tool for the objectives of this class. Any use of the computer outside of those bounds will result in the loss of computer privileges and could result in the removal of the student from the course. This includes but not limited to unauthorized game playing, chatting, sharing of files, or internet use. Any violation of the Acceptable Computer Use Policy may result in disciplinary action.
